Discuss the imagery in the poem "Asleep in the valley".

 The poet Arthur Rimbaud, in his poem “Asleep in the Valley”, uses a number of images throughout the poem to describe the beautiful picture of the valley and the lying dead soldier. The valley is described as a hollow. The river that flows slowly through the valley stretches like a silver belt. Also the bed of grass where the soldier is lying is described as soaked with sunlight. The ferns beneath the head of the soldier, provide a pillow for the dead soldier. Besides, the flowers at the feet of the dead soldier act as the tribute to him from the nation for his supreme sacrifice for his nation. Such images are not only ornamental but also functional. Thus our poet uses imagery in this poem.
