Bengali meaning of the poem On Killing a Tree by Gieve Patel. On Killing a Tree-এর বাংলা অর্থ,

On Killing a Tree
Gieve Patel

It takes much time to kill a tree,

Not a simple jab of the knife

Will do it. It has grown

Slowly consuming the earth,

Rising out of it, feeding

Upon its crust, absorbing

Years of sunlight, air, water,

And out of its leprous hide

Sprouting leaves.

So hack and chop

But this alone won’t do it.

Not so much pain will do it.

The bleeding bark will heal

And from close to the ground

Will rise curled green twigs,

Miniature boughs

Which if unchecked will expand again

To former size.

No,

The root is to be pulled out –

Out of the anchoring earth;

It is to be roped, tied,

And pulled out - snapped out

Or pulled out entirely,

Out from the earth-cave,

And the strength of the tree exposed,

The source, white and wet,

The most sensitive, hidden

For years inside the earth.

Then the matter

Of scorching and choking

In sun and air,

Browning, hardening,

Twisting, withering,

And then it is done.

Write a letter to the Editor of an English daily about the poor water supply in your locality.

To
The Editor,
The Telegraph,
Kolkata—01.

Sir,
I shall be highly obliged if you kindly allow me a little space in the columns of your highly esteemed daily so that I may ventilate my opinion to draw the attention of the concerned / due authority about the poor supply of water in our locality.

We live at Nrisinghapur, Santipur. Of late water supply in our locality has been very deplorable and it is causing a massive problem to the living of the common people. Our locality also is an arsenic-ridden area. So, we have to depend totally on the municipality water for drinking. Besides the underground water level is too low to fetch by hand-pump or well. So, we have to perform household personal works with municipality water. But due to irregular water supply, we are facing a lot of problem. People have to go miles to fetch water for their daily usage. Also drinking bad water is causing different physical trouble. We are fighting against this problem only to survive which is not at all acceptable in twenty first century.

I, in view of all these, think that the due authority should take necessary steps as early as possible to solve this problem, otherwise the public grievance may, at any time, lead to a dire consequence.

Thanking you,

 Yours faithfully,
 Subrata Biswas

My dear Madhu,

I have not heard anything from you for a long time. Hope you are all well. We are also well. Today I am going to inform you about my planning in upcoming summer vacation.

You know that our summer vacation will start from 15th of May. So, we are going to get a lot of free time during that period and I have decided to utilize that time for a noble work. You know that most of the people of our village are illiterate. They do not know how to read and how to write. Even so many people can not write signature of their own. Being a conscious person of the society, it is my moral duty to do something good for them. So, I along with my few local friends have take decision to a start a free day-school in our village though it will be after completing our every day’s study. Even we have decided to make campaign to let everyone inform about the importance of education. I think this duty will help us to repay our debt partly to the society.

No more today. I earnestly request you to take park in our mission.
Yours ever,
Arpita

REPORT ON EDUCATIONAL TOUR TO PLASSEY.

NRISINGHAPUR HIGH SCHOOL ORGANISED EDUCATIONAL TOUR TO PLASSEY

--by a staff reporter,

March 19, Santipur: Like every year, also in this year, yesterday Nrisinghapur High School organised an educational tour to Plassey Monument. That tour was organised only for the students of class-IX and X. More than 100 students participated in that tour and they were accompanied by teachers. The tour started at 8.30 am from Nrisinghapur Bus Stand with two buses. The buses at first reached Bethuadahari Sanctuary and all the students became delighted to see so many animals like peacock, crocodile, tortoise, deer, nilgai and many types of birds. There after spending two hours, the buses started for main attraction. At 12.30pm, they reached Plassey that had always been an inevitable attraction for the tourists and travellers. After taking meals, students began to explore the Plassey Monument and its historical importance. It took their mind to the world of imagination led to historical Plassey war and they began to observe through their inner eyes how Siraj-Ud-Doulla was defeated by the British Company’s soldiers. Teachers also informed them how Mirjafar intrigued against Nawab. They returned at 6 pm with a lot of memories that enriched them with India’s past history.

HOW RAIN IS FORMED / FORMATION OF RAIN

Rainfall is a natural phenomenon occurs through a cycle process. It is a never-ending process that goes on and on. Water from different sources like seas, rivers, lakes, ponds get heated by sunlight and gets evaporated as water vapour. At a certain height and temperature in the sky, that vapour gets cool and condensed into tiny water droplets and those droplets come together with other droplets and form cloud. As they hover in the sky, they become heavy and grey in colour. When they become too heavy to float on the sky, they fall on the earth as rain and that water again reaches the sources to become cloud. Thus, the process goes on in a continuous cyclic way.
