Write a letter to the Editor of an English daily about the problem of Global warming.

To
The Editor,
The Telegraph,
Kolkata—01.

Sir,
I shall be highly obliged if you kindly allow me a little space in the columns of your highly esteemed daily so that I may ventilate my opinion to draw the attention of the concerned authority about the problem of global warming.

We all know that, at present time, global warming is the biggest threat to our sweet world and human civilization. Global warming means the increase of the average temperature of the earth’s surface. The problem is increasing everyday due to rapid industrialization, urbanization and deforestation. Besides, excessive use of luxury electronics like refrigerator, A.C etc. by modern people increases greenhouse gasses like CO2, CH4, CFC in the atmosphere. They harm ozone layer and create havoc to earth. Also, the polar-ice caps and glaciers are getting melted due to global warming. As a result, many islands and low-lying cities will go under water forever in near future.

I, in view of all these, think that, to save human civilization, global warming must be checked. More and more trees must be planted and the government should introduce strict laws to protect trees so that our world always remains favourable for our future generation.

Thanking you,

Yours faithfully,

Write a letter to the Editor of an English daily about the unhealthy food sold in the school premises or around the school

To
The Editor,
The Telegraph,
Kolkata—01.

Sir,
I shall be highly obliged if you kindly allow me a little space in the columns of your highly esteemed daily so that I may ventilate my opinion to draw the attention of the concerned authority about the unhealthy food sold in the school premises or around the school.

Of late, most of the school going students are very much prone to obesity and health issues due to their life styles and their food habits. As a result, it leads to many diseases like diabetics, obesity, high BP, gastric and even cancer. It is proved that these diseases mainly come from their food habit. It is seen that, in school or around the school, many food items like junk food, cold drinks, fast foods, cut fruits are sold. They cause different physical trouble. Also, few ingredients of those foods effect student’s brain and heart directly. Besides food colours used in those junk items are very much unhealthy. Overall, they hamper the study of those students and due to their unhealthy condition, they cannot get enough energy to concentrate in study or other co-curriculum activities.

I, in view of all these, think that the education department should ban such junk food in and around the school premises. Also, the vendor should be forced to sell fruit juice and other healthy items.

Thanking you,

Yours faithfully,

Write a letter to the Editor about bad effect of Felling of trees

To
The Editor,
The Telegraph,
Kolkata—01.

Sir,

I shall be highly obliged if you kindly allow me a little space in the columns of your highly esteemed daily so that I may ventilate my opinion to draw the attention of the due authority about the bad effects of excessive felling of trees.

Felling of trees is a massive problem of today’s world. Trees are very much important for the humanity as they take a great role to maintain ecological balance and make our world fit for us to live. But discarding its benefits, we are cutting down trees. As a result, it is causing global warming and green house gasses are increasing. We are facing different kind of chronicle diseases. Besides, felling of trees also hampers the regular cycle of climate. Day by day, total situation is becoming threatening to us to live on our sweet world.

I, in view of all these, think that the due authority should take necessary steps and the government should introduce strict laws as early as possible to stop the felling of tree, otherwise our sweet world will very soon become inappropriate for our future generation to live on it.

Paragraph on Water Crisis in India.

Paragraph
on
Water Crisis in India

At present, Water crisis has been considered as a global issue. Our country is also facing the same problem. We require plenty of water every day, especially for drinking, cooking. But supply of underground water and surface water are getting inadequate. This problem has so reasons. Among them few are due to natural and few are due to human’s evil action. Since very past, we have been using underground water and gradually its level is getting low. Due to population explosion, we are clearing away forests and as a result of it, the rain is not occurring adequately as it should happen. Besides, we misuse and waste water very much. Now the situation has been very much deplorable in many parts of India. The ground is getting dried. Crop production is getting hampered. The price of drinking water is getting high and high. The economy of farming area has nearly collapsed. If we want to make our sweet world fit for living for our future generation, we should begin to save water and stop wasting water from today and also the government should be more and more careful about it.

Questions on Prayer Before Birth by Louis MacNeice.

Prayer Before Birth
by
Louis MacNeice

1. “I am not yet born; O fill me
With strength against those who would freeze my
humanity, would dragoon me into a lethal automaton,
would make me a cog in a machine, a thing with
one face, a thing, and against all those
who would dissipate my entirety, would
blow me like thistledown hither and
thither or hither and thither
like water held in the
hands would spill me.”—Explain.

3.

“Let them not make me a stone and let them not spill me/ Otherwise kill me”—Explain the concluding stanza of the poem ‘Prayer Before Birth’.

“Let them not make me a stone and let them not spill me
Otherwise kill me”
—Explain the concluding stanza of the poem ‘Prayer Before Birth’.

Answer: These lines occurs in the poem Prayer Before Birth by Macneice. This is the concluding pray of an unborn child to the God. The unborn child knows very well that he will have to face the perils, evils upon being born into the world. He knows that the world will not spare him from committing evil like murder, using slang words, treachery etc. He also knows that the world will make him a stone-hearted man with no sympathy, humanity and ultimately, they will destroy his life completely. He is very much fearful about it. So, the unborn child prays to God for protection from this to happen with him. He wants to live. He hates war and hates to become the casualty of war. At last the child tells the God to kill him if God can not able to keep the child’s request. To the child, it is better to die early before being killed in the war. Through this, the poet expresses his anti-war mentality.

Answer: These lines have been taken from MacNeice’s poem, ‘Prayer Before Birth’. In this poem, an unborn child prays to God before his birth. He knows that the world is full of malice, contrast, controversy, hatred, war. He knows that it will not be easy to live on this earth. So, he wants enough power from God so that he can stand against them especially against that evil power that will force him to join war to kill humanity with lethal automaton indiscriminately. He also prays to God to have enough strength so that he can oppose them who will consider the unborn child not as a human being but as a machine and who will dissipate his entirety like water held in hand. The poet is fearful about it before his birth. The poet also expresses his hatred and protest against war. He knows war is not the solution to any dispute. Rather, war nips life in bud.
