Significance of the title of the prose Karma?

* The title of Karma is a Sanskrit word means ‘deed’. But it actually means that one gets fruits according to his or her deeds. This story deals with Mohan Lal whose pride in himself is broken up by his own ‘karma’ i.e. deeds.

* In spite of being an Indian, Mohan Lal always loves British culture and everything else that belongs to England. He hates Indians including his wife Lachmi and every Indian object. To him everything of India is dirty, inefficient. He always wears British suits and admires his five years span time in England. He always wishes to get company of British people while travelling. But one day he is suffered at the hands of two British soldiers in a first-class compartment. Those soldiers call him a ‘nigger’ and forcefully get him out of the compartment.

* The author thinks that Mohan Lal gets his punishment for his own deeds regarding his hatred for India and his slavish imitation of British culture. So the title of this prose is very much apt.
