“Few girls can resist flatter”—Where does the line occur? Why did the narrator flatter the girl and how? What was effect of it on the girl?

This line occurs in Ruskin Bond’s story The Eyes Have It.

The narrator was very much captivated by the girl who had just entered his compartment and to get her favour and to impress her, the narrator flattered the girl.

To flatter the girl, the blind narrator began to speak with her like an eye-sighted man. He remarked that she had an interesting face. She dishearted the narrator by saying that she was tired to hear people said that she had a pretty face. Then he became a bit serious and argued that an interesting face could also be pretty. Thus he flattered the girl.

The girl did not able to understand his flattery as few girls could resist flattery on admiration of her beauty. Rather she called him a gallant young man and advised him not to be so serious.
