Bring out the central idea of the poem On Killing a Tree by Gieve Patel.

“On Killing a Tree” by Gieve Patel is poem full of evocative images based on a bit of ambiguous sense of irony. In this poem, the poet shows the cruelty and violence to nature and its tree. At the very beginning of the poem, by telling us that it is very hard to kill a tree, Patel actually tells us that man is willing to go to any extent to serve his needs. In the present time we are moving away to industrialized means of living from agriculture. So we are trying to clear away forests and fields to make way for industry. We have to spare immense effort to uproot the trees, but that, however, does not stop us to do so as we are so greedy for profit that we eliminate anything that stands in our way. The poet is very much shocked and saddened to see this and he actually wants his readers to feel the same. “On Killing a Tree” is his sole attempt to do that.
