ANSWERS
1. Poetry of Earth is a Petrarchan Sonnet.
2. When all the birds are faint due to hot sunlight , a sound is heard from hedge to hedge about the new mown meadow. It is the sound of grasshopper.
3. The fire of stove increases the warmth of the wintry frost.
4. After singing for long time in hot sunlight, all the birds become very tired. So, to revitalize their energy , the birds hide in cooling trees.
5. The very beginning line of the poem shows that the own music of Earth i.e. sound of wind, chirping of birds etc are never ending. They go on always.
6. In the octave, the poet talks about the song or sound of grasshopper.
7. In this poem, birds are seen to sing in hot sunlight and very soon they get fatigued in hot sunlight and take rest in cooling trees.
8. The rhyme scheme of poem is ABBA ABBA CDE CDE.
9. When all the birds are faint with the hot sun light, to carry on the music of earth, the grasshopper takes the lead.
10. On a lonely winter evening, when fall of frost has wroght silence everywhere, the cricket is heard from near the stove.
11. Here 'he' is the grasshopper.
12. Full-grown meadow is the living place for insects. But here the poet refers 'new mown mead' only to show that anyhow the music of nature will go on even in the new mown meadow.
13. Finally the grasshopper takes rest beneath some pleasant weed.
14. When other musicians of nature get tired due to hot sunlight, that adverse atmosphere seems very pleasant and luxurious to the grasshopper. It doesn't make him tired. So the poet mentions the phrase 'summer's luxury'.
15. The grasshopper feels very energetic in the hot sunlight. The sun doesn't able to make him tired. But once he gets tired out of fun.
16. The phrase ' warmth increasing ever' means that On a lone winter evening when everything is freezed and silence prevails everywhere, cricket getting the warmth from the stove, increases the tempo of its song.
17. In summer, the birds get fainted due to the the labour of of singing and due to the extreme heat of sunlight.
18. The grasshopper is never done with delight in the poem.
19. The drowsy person takes the song of cricket for the song of grasshopper because he is in semi-conscious state of mind and he cannot differ the two song that have very little gap between them.
20. The sestet of the poem portrays the season of winter.
21. Nothing can make the grasshopper tired. But it once gets tired only out of fun.
22. The poetry of earth will never end.
