Lachmi was a native woman who did not know the manner, attitude of upper classes’ people. So, while travelling she kept distance from her husband Mohan Lal. Mohan Lal was in the waiting room and Lachmi was outside the waiting room. She liked to chat with any one as her husband had no time for her. She was sitting on a grew trunk. She was fanning herself with a newspaper and was chewing betel leaf. At that time, she was having a conversation with bearer. She continued conversing with him until her husband called him inside the waiting room for wine. After that she hailed a passing coolie to carry her luggage to a place where zenana compartment stopped.
