From fairest creatures we desire increase,

That thereby beauty's rose might never die,

But as the riper should by time decease,

His tender heir might bear his memory:

But thou contracted to thine own bright eyes,

Feed'st thy light's flame with self-substantial fuel,

Making a famine where abundance lies,

Thy self thy foe, to thy sweet self too cruel:

Thou that art now the world's fresh ornament,

And only herald to the gaudy spring,

Within thine own bud buriest thy content,

And, tender churl, mak'st waste in niggarding:

Pity the world, or else this glutton be,

To eat the world's due, by the grave and thee.

আমরা আশা রাখি পৃথিবীর সুন্দরতম প্রাণী থেকে আরো সুন্দর প্রাণী বৃদ্ধি পাক

যাতে করে ওই গোলাপের মতো সুন্দর জিনিস/ প্রাণী পৃথিবী থেকে হারিয়ে না যায়

কিন্তু সময় চক্রে সে বৃদ্ধ হয়ে মারা যাবে

তার কমল উত্তরাধিকারী তার ওই স্মৃতিকে বহন করবে।

কিন্তু তুমি তোমার নিজস্ব উজ্জ্বল চোখ/ সৌন্দর্যের প্রতি প্রতিজ্ঞাবদ্ধ/ দায়বদ্ধ

তুমি তোমার নিজস্ব রসদ দিয়ে তোমার সৌন্দর্যের আলোর শিখা জ্বালাচ্ছ

তুমি তোমার মধ্যে থাকা পর্যাপ্ত রসদ/ সৌন্দর্য কে শূন্য করে দিচ্ছো

তাই তুমি নিজেই নিজের শত্রু, তুমি নিজেই নিজের সুন্দর স্বত্তার প্রতি নিষ্ঠুরও

এখন তুমি হলে পৃথিবীর সতেজ গহনা/ সৌন্দর্যের প্রতীক

একমাত্র তুমি ই  হলে রঙিন বসন্তের বার্তাবাহক/ ঘোষণাকারী

কিন্তু তুমি তোমার নিজস্ব সৌন্দর্য কে নিজের মধ্যেই সমাধিস্থ করছো

এবং এবং সেগুলি কৃপণের মত তুমি (বোকার মত) নষ্ট করছো

এই পৃথিবীকে তুমি করুণা করো, নয়তো রাক্ষসের মত

তুমি এবং তোমার কবর গ্রাস করে নেবে পৃথিবীর বাকি সৌন্দর্যকে।

Paraphrase of Sonnet-1

In the Sonnet-1, the poet William Shakespeare, has expressed a desire to his beloved friend. According to him, every beautiful living being multiply or produce their heir so that beauty such like a rose will never come to an end. But in course of time, his friend will grow older, and in his absence his young offspring will keep his memory, beauty alive in himself or herself.

           The poet reminds his friend that he is dutiful and bound to his beauty to recreate it as a rule of nature, and should maintain the glory of his beauty with his own personal resources. The poet warns his friend that he is spending all his resource that, in course of time, once be exhausted. So, the poet calls his friend cruel and the enemy of himself as he is going against the law of nature.

          Then the poet glorifies the beauty of his friend so that he accepts his appeal and recreate the same beauty. according to the poet, his friend is the only specimen of his caliber and he is the only messenger of colourful spring. But at present,not leaving behind anything like his beauty, he is burying his own beauty within himself like a miser who spends nothing of his needs having everything to spend.

     In the concluding couplet, Shakespeare requests his friend to pity the world by producing his offspring otherwise his death and his grave will devour all his beauty and will leave nothing of his beauty in this world. This sonnet is an appeal from Shakespeare to his friend to get married and produce beautiful offspring like himself for the sake of world.
