What charges were brought against Othello? How did he defend the charges?

 Though Othello was black complexioned Moor, Desdemona loved him and they married each other secretly. When the Senator Brabantio came to know it, he could not accept it. So, Othello should get his punishment. Brabantio took the matter to the courtiers and brought charges against him that Othello had misused the hospitality of the Senator and by the art of witchcraft Othello had seduced his daughter for marriage. Brabantio proclaims that his daughter would have never submitted herself to the black bosom of a Moor like Othello. Brabantio is inculpatory in his speech.

 Othello defended himself against the charges against him by simplicity and frankly speaking. He clearly stated that both he and Desdemona loved each other and wanted to prove it by calling Desdemona on the spot. This strategy saves him from the false accusation. Besides, at that time Venice need Othello to stop Turkish’s sudden attack. So, Brabantio had not option left than to accept the marriage of Othello and Desdemona.
