Character of Sidda.
Answer: In R. K. Narayan’s short story Leela’s Friend, Sidda is the main character, a common man with a touch of uncommon. He was appointed as a servant in the Sivasanker’s house. From the very first day he became friend with Sivasanker’s daughter, Leela. Most of the time Sidda had to spend and play with Leela leaving his all works. Sidda always took Leela’s mind in the world of imagination by his fine stories. Sidda told her that moon was his friend and also he could often touch the moon. Time was passing very pleasantly. But one day, Leela’s gold chain was missing and her mother suspected that Sidda might have taken it. Then he was put to jail. But some days later Leela’s chain was discovered from the tamarind pot. Through such a tragic end, Sidda gets a permanent place in the hearts of readers. Thus, Narayan artistically turned an ordinary character into an extraordinary one.
