Answer: In the poem Brotherhood, the poet Octavio Paz philosophically gives an interpretation of human life. At the very beginning of the poem, the poet presents himself as a common man and human being is his only identity. According to the poet, the span of human life is very short and the life after death is infinite:
In spite of having short span of life, the poet does not give up hope and tries to be immortal. Observing the stars, the poet thinks that the secret origin of the universe has been immortalized through the presence of the stars. He then considers that after his death he will also be immortal through his creations i.e. poetries when the future generation will read them:
It is the only key to be immortal.
“I am a man: little do I last
And the night is enormous.”
And the night is enormous.”

“And at this very moment
Someone spells me out”
Someone spells me out”
