Unthrifty loveliness, why dost thou spend

Upon thy self thy beauty's legacy?

Nature's bequest gives nothing, but doth lend,

And being frank she lends to those are free:

Then, beauteous niggard, why dost thou abuse

The bounteous largess given thee to give?

Profitless usurer, why dost thou use

So great a sum of sums, yet canst not live?

For having traffic with thy self alone,

Thou of thy self thy sweet self dost deceive:

Then how when nature calls thee to be gone,

What acceptable audit canst thou leave?

বন্ধু, কেন তুমি তোমার অপচয়ী সৌন্দর্যকে নষ্ট করছো

নিজের মধ্যেই , নিজের সৌন্দর্যের উত্তরাধিকারী উপর না করে?

প্রকৃতি তোমার গুন গুলি তোমায় দিয়েছে ধার হিসেবে

যেই অপার সৌন্দর্য তোমাকে দেয়া হয়েছে অন্যকে প্রদান করার জন্য?

হে লাভ হীন ঋণদাতা, কেন তুমি খরচ করছো

এত পরিমাণ পরিশ্রম যা টিকে থাকবে না?

প্রকৃতি প্রদত্ত বৈশিষ্ট্য, সৌন্দর্য গুলো নিজের মধ্যেই ব্যবহার/ ক্ষয় করার জন্য

তুমি তোমার নিজের সুন্দর সত্ত্বাকে নিজেই ঠকাচ্ছ

যখন প্রকৃতি তোমায় চলে যাওয়ার (মৃত্যুর) জন্য ডাকবে

 তখন তুমি কিভাবে এবং কি কি সঠিক হিসাব রেখে/ দিয়ে যেতে পারবে?

তোমার অব্যবহারকারী  সৌন্দর্য গুলো তোমার সাথে সমাধিতে চলে যাবে

যেগুলি ব্যবহার করলে ভবিষ্যৎ প্রজন্মের মধ্যে বেঁচে থাকতো

PARAPHRASE/ SUMMARY OF SONNET- 4

Also, in Sonnet-4, poet William Shakespeare has urged his friend to marry and produce child of his same caliber. According to the poet, his friend is wasting his quality, splendor because the beauty, which nature has conferred him, is not for wasting; rather it should be used properly in producing the heir. Nature does not supply anybody whatever without a reason. Nature may be very generous: however she bestows gifts upon people as a sort of mortgage which they should repay. The recipients from nature should themselves be generous also, because they should repay their debts to nature as per their capacity.

But poet's pal, is a miser in regards to the present (of beauty) which he has obtained from nature. Why is he not using nicely the beneficent gift which nature has bestowed upon him ? Nature is like a money-lender who makes no profit from the loans she gives to the poet's friend. So, the poet reminds the nature that all her efforts in creating friend's beauty have gone in vain because that beauty will die with the death of poet's friend.

Poet's friend is dwelling with himself only, and is not arranging a (matrimonial) dating with any female. Rather, he is wasting his youth with himself. Consequently, he is deceiving his own self that is innocent and beautiful. The poet reminds the friend that when nature will call him to the world of unknown i.e. death, what account of his deeds in this earth will he show to the nature? Probably he will not give any acceptable answers regarding his obtained beauty, quality from nature.

He is not making the right use of his beauty which will, consequently, be buried along side him in his grave. In case, he uses his beauty in the right way marrying a woman and producing offspring, this unparalleled beauty will continue to exist on this world through his next generation. So, to preserve his beauty, unique entity, poet's friend should marry and utilize his blessed beauty properly.
