Character of Roger
Ans: At the very beginning of the story Thank You Ma’am, Roger is introduced when he tries to steal the large purse of Mrs. Jones to buy a pair of "blue suede shoes". He is described as a frail and willow-wild young teenager, in tennis shoes and blue jeans. He has nobody to look after him at home. So he has very little sense of right or wrong. His face always remains very dirty. Despite his act of attempted purse-snatching, it is clear that he is grateful and a good fellow at heart as he does not run from Mrs. Jones’s house when he has the chance. He does not betray her trust. He was polite too as he repeatedly answers Mrs. Jones saying "Yes'm" and "No'm". Mrs. Jones’ hospitality and motherly affection change Roger completely.
