Biography of Hon’ble President, Shri Pranab Mukherjee


Mother India had produced many great sons and daughters and Sri Pranab Mukherjee was one of them. Shri Pranab Mukherjee, the first Bengali President of India was born in Mirati, now in Birbhum district, West Bengal on 11th December, 1935. His father’s name was Kamada Kinkar Mukherjee and Rajlakshmi Mukherjee was his mother. Shri Mukherjee attended Suri Vidyasagar College and earned MA degree in both Political Science and History from the University of Calcutta. He also earned LLB degree from the University of Calcutta. He was the founding member of Bangla Congress (1967). Shri Mukherjee was the Finance Minister of India (2009-2012) and after that he served the nation as the President of India from 25th July, 2012 to 25th July, 2017. For his notable service, he received Bharat Ratna (2019), Padma Vibhusan (2008) and many honours and honorary doctorate degrees from many foreign countries and universities. He wrote many books too, some of which are Beyond Survival, Off the Track, Thoughts and Reflections etc. During the COVID-19 pandemic he was admitted to the Army's Research and Referral hospital in New Delhi and died on 31 August 2020. This wise and religious President will be in the minds of millions for years.
